Biblioteca Gastronomica

A specialized library focused on bibliographic materials about Mexican cuisine.

The Library of Mexican Gastronomy is regarded as exceptional because it gathers the broadest current and historical bibliographic collection on one of the three cuisines worldwide that UNESCO has recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage: Mexican cuisine.

Since its creation, the driving force has been to preserve, research, and disseminate. With guidance from UNAM, we created a welcoming space where anyone—along with students, writers, and researchers from Mexico and abroad—has free on‑site access to more than 7,400 publications, notably including a work that Fundación Herdez is honored to house: El Cocinero Mexicano (1831), the oldest cookbook from independent Mexico and a pioneer among national cookbooks in the Western world.

Free on‑site consultation.

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

As part of our efforts to promote the Mexican Gastronomy Library, we participated in the second edition of the Edit-a-thon “Heritage in Time,” in partnership with Wikimedia Mexico and the Network of Libraries and Archives of the Historic Center (RBACH), where together with 34 institutions we created the Fundación Herdez page on Wikipedia, available for consultation:
